Chapter 08
I shoved a steak into my mouth and ran to the control room. As I ran, juices burst in my mouth.
All this time I had been eating only pre-cooked combat rations—I felt like an idiot.
I arrived at the control room, where everyone was busy.
The deputy commander saluted me.
“How’s the situation?”
“You’d better see this yourself.”
I sat in the captain’s chair and immediately synced in.
The sync displayed a game-like view.
Boom! Bang!!
A maneuvering warship was rapidly firing on a space station. The station was so small compared to it that it looked overwhelmed.
“It’s going to fall soon.”
I racked my brain on what to do. Then—
Shoo-shoo-shoo!
A fighter jet launched from the space station, firing tiny, toy-like lasers.
Those weak “water gun” lasers couldn’t even scratch the ship’s shields.
But at the timing when the station fired its lasers—
Swoosh!
The warship’s shields weakened slightly, and the fighter slipped through that gap.
Shoo-shoo-shoo!
It kept firing its miniature lasers.
Thunk!
It still couldn’t penetrate the armor of the heavy warship.
“Uh?! Enemy 2nd laser disabled!”
Then it destroyed one of the ship’s cannons.
For a single fighter, it was an incredible achievement. If it destroyed just two more cannons, the assault would be aborted.
But—
“Enemy ship releasing ion burst! Fighter suppressed!”
Bad luck. The new model warship had ion suppression systems.
In the end, the space station raised the white flag. It could no longer resist.
“Captain, what should we do?”
The deputy commander asked me.
I didn’t answer immediately and thought for a moment.
Then it hit me.
“They’re docking without using shuttles?!”
Normally, only a small unit would board first to secure the area.
“Zoom in! Maximum zoom!”
The reconnaissance officer adjusted the long-range camera.
“Look at the gangway connecting the ship and the dock!”
“It’s shaking a lot! That means many troops are moving!”
The deputy replied.
“Good. This is our chance.”
“Wasn’t fighting earlier better?”
“No. The ion blast was just used. That ship cannot fight right now.”
The enemy ship had shut down its engines, likely rebooting its systems.
“Our main guns are only at 40% efficiency. If we don’t finish them in one strike, we’ll be counterattacked. And the rest of our fleet is in poor condition.”
“We’re not going for fleet battle. Everyone, change into boarding suits immediately. No exceptions.”
“Wait… you’re planning close combat?”
I nodded.
“Tell the other ships to transfer all personnel to our vessel!”
The deputy issued the order.
I opened the storage under the captain’s seat and took out a boarding suit.
It looked like a diving suit.
My eyes drifted somewhere without me realizing.
“Oh wow.”
The deputy commander’s figure was… insane.
“Captain? Captain?!”
“Ah. I was just thinking. Don’t misunderstand.”
I quickly sat down.
Soon, all personnel completed boarding suit preparation.
“All crews from escort ships and corvettes have transferred!”
“Good. All personnel to the marine bay!”
“Are we ramming them?”
“There’s an old saying: there is no warrior against numbers.”
I stood up.
“Helmsman, it’s in your hands. If you can’t hit a stationary target, hand in your license.”
“I-I’ll do my best!”
Everyone moved to the marine bay.
Our ship had a ramming system that allowed physical boarding.
The area became chaotic—everyone squeezed in like a crowded amusement ride.
“Don’t push!”
“Who touched my ass?!”
“Drop your weapons, idiot!”
The helmsman’s voice came over the intercom.
“We are about to collide! Brace for impact!”
The ship shook violently.
BOOOOM!!!
The impact slammed me forward.
I fell, and the deputy commander caught me, but we collided.
For a moment, something about the sensation felt strange.
“Are you okay?”
“What do you mean?”
“There’s a bump on your stomach—go to medical!”
She turned red and quickly covered herself.
I had just discovered her secret.
She likely had body reconstruction limits due to the ship’s medical system.
Just then—
The hatch opened.
“Now! Kill them all!”
Gunfire erupted.
We stormed into the enemy ship.
The corridor was luxurious—far more refined than ours.
“Move to the control room!”
The deputy led the way, knife in one hand, gun in the other.
The engine was rebooting.
“If they complete reboot and push us into the dock, we’re dead!”
We rushed forward.
At the control room—
Laser cutters were melting the door.
The door finally gave way.
Gunfire erupted inside.
Enemy control personnel screamed.
Then—
A massive wolf-like man wielding dual blades was slaughtering our troops.
A terrifying expert.
The deputy rushed him with a gun, but he took the bullets directly and kept fighting.
She engaged him in close combat.
Meanwhile, I noticed a large container of lubricant.
“Do you have lubricant?!”
“Yes!”
I threw it to the deputy.
“Pour it on the floor!”
She did.
The wolf slipped immediately.
“Keep bringing more lubricant! Spread it everywhere!”
The entire floor became a slippery mess of oil and blood.
Even I slipped and fell.
The troops crawled forward in chaos.
The wolf lost his footing completely.
The deputy used the advantage, skating across the floor like a professional.
She slashed his arms repeatedly.
He dropped his weapons.
She pierced his throat.
The wolf collapsed.
Cheers erupted.
“We won!!”
But I said:
“Not yet. Contact the space station.”
Enemy combat troops were still on the station.
