Chapter 02
“Wow…”
Just as Bunny was about to hop down from the carriage, she was gently lifted by Roden Heiner’s hand and safely placed on the ground. Her mouth dropped open.
So white… so fancy… so shiny!
A massive mansion rose high into the sky, decorated with dazzling gold accents. It was the most enormous and brilliant estate Bunny had ever seen.
A pure white mansion!
“This way,” the knight said.
Bunny followed Roden Heiner with small, pattering steps.
Inside the enormous white mansion, many people wore unusually white clothing. Some walked around holding thick books, and others wore shining silver armor.
“Huh…”
Watching them closely, Bunny suddenly gasped.
“A child, a child. You must never go near people wearing white clothes. They might hurt you, understood?”
Luriel’s warning echoed in her mind—Rule #7 of “Strict Safety Instructions.”
White clothes = bad people. White things = dangerous!
Startled, Bunny jumped when she made eye contact with someone in flowing white robes holding a book.
Doo-doo-doo—
Terrified, she quickly tucked her head down like a turtle and ran to stay close to the knight. She glanced sideways at Roden Heiner and nodded in satisfaction.
‘The knight wears black! Safe!’
Roden Heiner, cloaked entirely in black robes, made Bunny sigh in relief as she wiped imaginary sweat from her forehead.
The knight noticed her odd behavior and looked at her with curiosity.
Her tiny legs moved quickly as she walked, the limp ears of her black rabbit backpack bouncing with each step. It was so overstuffed that the bag looked oddly lumpy, like a muscular rabbit.
‘A muscular rabbit…’
Roden Heiner almost laughed but stopped himself.
Maybe being around children was making his brain childish.
He bent slightly and asked, “Do you have any questions, my lady?”
“Questions?”
“Yes. I’ll explain everything when we arrive, but you may ask now.”
Bunny thought for a moment, then raised her right hand high.
The orphanage director said good children raise their right hand when asking questions.
‘Human rules.’
She didn’t have to follow them since she would become the Demon King, but adults liked obedient children.
“Why do white people exist?”
“…Ah. People in white clothes are from the Temple.”
“Temple…?”
“Yes. The Temple purifies monsters, exterminates demons, and protects human peace.”
Roden Heiner knelt down to match her eye level and explained patiently.
At that moment—
Boom!
It felt as if a giant rock had dropped onto Bunny’s head.
Her mouth fell open.
Temple people…?
White clothes…?
“Oh, and my lady,” Roden added carefully, “there are extremely dangerous people among those in white robes. Especially the holy knights. They are said to be merciless and would capture a small child like you in an instant.”
Luriel’s words suddenly echoed again:
“Never get close to holy knights! They’re terrifying!”
Bunny froze.
Through Roden Heiner’s robe, she could see a glimpse of white fabric underneath.
Temple? Knight…?
Roden… holy knight?!
‘Bunny… in big, big danger?!’
If they find out she’s a future Demon King, will they eat her?!
Shaking, Bunny slowly backed away until she stood exactly three steps away from him.
Well, to Roden Heiner, it was barely even one step.
“Lady?”
“Roden… are you a Temple knight?”
The man twitched slightly but kept his expression steady.
“No. I am a knight of the House of Yudia.”
Ah. Relief.
If he’s not from the Temple, then it’s safe.
Bunny immediately relaxed and smiled brightly, moving back close to his side again.
‘There are so many white clothes everywhere… better stay close to black clothes!’
Roden Heiner could not understand her strange behavior at all.
“Are your legs hurting? Shall I carry you?”
“Nope!”
Bunny hopped in place to show she was fine.
Roden cleared his throat.
“The House of Yudia is a noble family that has produced high priests, leaders of holy knight orders, and saints. It is a prestigious family that even possesses a divine knight order, the only one of its kind allowed. It is a house that values strength above all.”
Hearing all the unfamiliar words, Bunny’s eyes spun.
She could only catch fragments of meaning.
“Super… strong… house?”
“Yes.”
“So… there’s a super strong demon dad here too?”
At the word “demon,” Roden Heiner froze for a split second, but quickly recovered.
“…Something like that.”
Bunny nodded happily.
‘So it really is a super strong family!’
Then suddenly—
“The House of Yudia also led humanity to victory in the war against the demons.”
BOOM!
Lightning and thunder exploded in Bunny’s imagination.
‘They… destroyed demons?!’
The House of Yudia was even scarier than she thought!
Luriel’s voice echoed again:
“If you ever meet Temple people, don’t reveal that you’re a descendant of the Demon King. Stay calm, and you can survive even in a tiger’s den!”
“Stay… calm… safe!”
“Yes. If you hide it well, almost no one can tell. It’s practically the perfect crime!”
Bunny nodded seriously.
Yes. Even in a tiger’s den, as long as you stay calm, you survive.
‘I will become a perfect tiger-den survivor!’
