Chapter 31
Elysia’s Declaration of War on the Ball
The chat exploded with excitement at those words.
How are you going to get in? You don’t have an invitation!
LOL are you crashing the party?
Infiltration! Treason! Let’s gooo!
As Elysia arrived at her room while reading the comments, she shook her head.
“No, everyone. I’m actually a very rational and… ahem, cultured noble lady.”
Did she just clear her throat?
LOL
Oof, you feeling guilty or what lol
“I did consider sneaking in… honestly… but I won’t do that this time!”
Elysia replied firmly. Once in her room, she thoroughly inspected her bed. With a serious look, she rolled the pillow in her blanket and nodded.
“Hmm, just covering it with a pillow is definitely too sloppy.”
It was clearly not convincing—no one would think someone was sleeping there if the face wasn’t even visible. Leaving the house with only that as a decoy would be disrespectful to her servants and family. Evaluating her escape setup like a professional runaway, Elysia grinned.
“But everyone, I can use this now!”
She raised her hand toward the pillow.
“Illusionis!”
Fwoosh!
As she chanted the spell, an illusion identical to Elysia appeared on the bed, peacefully sleeping like an angel.
“Fufu, with this in place, I can leave without worry.”
LMAO she’s using legendary magic… to sneak out!
Elysia using ancient magic for running away lol
But will it last all night though?
Good point. No matter how realistic the illusion, it would be useless if it didn’t last until morning. To this concern, Elysia answered confidently.
“Of course! Normally, illusion magic consumes a bit of mana over time, right?”
For an illusion of that level, it could consume anywhere from 10 to several dozen mana per hour.
“But since I have tens of thousands of mana, keeping it active all day is no problem at all! It’s perfect for me.”
Looking satisfied, Elysia gave the pillow a few proud pats and turned her head. No matter how she thought about it, this spell was amazing. It was cheap, came with special perks, and was perfect for escaping unnoticed!
“Phew, now I really don’t have to worry. I can sneak out tonight without a problem!”
Since the maids usually entered during mealtime, it was better to leave at night. Having decided that, Elysia dismissed the illusion on the bed for now and snuggled into the blankets to take a nap. Watching her, the viewers asked:
But sis… isn’t the ball in two days?
Why are you sneaking out tonight?
Indeed. The ball was in two days, so what was the point of sneaking out tonight?
Elysia leaned her chin on her hand, glancing at the curious viewers.
“That will become clear tonight. If you’re curious, be sure to join me then!”
Wow, she’s a full-fledged streamer now
Not a 60-second teaser but a whole night teaser, wow lol
“Come on, join me, please,”
She added playfully. It was going to be fun, after all.
Elysia smiled mischievously.
“Alright, it’s finally night!”
The perfect time to sneak out, with everyone asleep. Elysia had always liked this time, even before her possession. The quiet chirping of insects in the cool night air, and the serenity of being alone with one’s thoughts by candlelight… She was probably more of a night+early morning person than a morning person.
But apparently, many of her viewers were morning types:
Sigh… I have work tomorrow but I keep staying up for this stream…
LOL I have a 9 a.m. lecture tomorrow too
Not me! I have no class tomorrow lololol
Stream starting at midnight… I took a nap earlier in preparation haha
As soon as Elysia started the stream, the chat lit up with chatter. Watching them, Elysia bowed her head politely.
“Thank you all so much for joining me at this late hour. Now then, let’s begin the runaway operation!”
Will you finally tell us where you’re going?
I was dying of curiosity all day lol
“Oh, right! I haven’t told you that yet.”
Elysia turned to the window. Far off in the distance, under the moonlight, a tower shimmered faintly with rainbow colors.
“I’m heading to the Mage Tower.”
At the same time, at the Mage Tower…
Two mages were chatting while standing guard at the entrance.
“Senior, this is my first time doing guard duty, so I’m not sure—do visitors usually arrive by broom or carpet?”
A young, nervous mage asked. The senior mage shook his head.
“Most nobles come by carriage. They don’t like rough rides, and they hate walking even more.”
“Wow, picky folks.”
“Don’t worry too much. We’re not combat personnel anyway—just make sure you check IDs properly.”
Truth be told, these so-called “guards” only checked visitor qualifications. If anything serious happened, the combat mages or the Tower Master or Vice Tower Master would step in.
“There aren’t many visitors at night, so you can take it easy—”
Just as the senior mage was relaxing—
“Senior! Something’s coming this way!”
The young mage grabbed a telescope and looked.
Dust clouds were rising from the forest, something speeding toward the tower in a straight line.
“Why’s it so fast?! What is that? A monster?!”
The senior mage panicked.
“Do we activate the emergency system?! What do we do?! Oh, Goddess of Prinis, what is happening?!”
“P-Please calm down, Senior! I don’t think it’s a monster… I mean, it doesn’t look like one.”
Both mages peered through the window at the fast-approaching figure. As it drew closer, its silhouette became clearer.
It was a woman.
Her outfit was simple and unadorned for mobility, but the pristine fabric was clearly of high quality. Her half-tied hair was a vivid red, catching the moonlight in shades of gold and orange.
And those striking golden eyes peeking through her flying hair…
So mysterious, so beautiful—it was hard to believe she’d just run through a forest. The younger mage muttered in awe:
“Senior, I didn’t study last lecture so I have to ask… is that… one of those moonlight spirits we learned about in the textbook…?”
“…I-I don’t know!”
As the dumbfounded guards muttered to each other, the woman reached the checkpoint. Despite running through the woods, her appearance was immaculate, not a single leaf stuck to her clothes, and she wasn’t even out of breath.
Then she spoke.
“Excuse me? Aren’t you going to check my ID?”
“Gasp!”
“She’s… human!”
The guards gasped in relief. The senior mage managed to stammer out a question.
“You’re… a mage, right? Your name?”
“Elysia Sempherion.”
“…!”
The senior’s face went stiff. He was a commoner, but he knew of House Sempherion’s reputation.
The house that could stop a flying bird mid-air! The precious daughter of that household—here?!
“Why didn’t you come by carriage…? I mean, why…?!”
Elysia tilted her head and smiled sweetly.
“It was close by, so I ran for some exercise. Is that a problem?”
“Wha…?!”
The mages stared at her with their mouths agape.
She really ran there
Look at their faces LOL
I mean, anyone would freak out if someone ran at 400 km/h lmaooo
∥“I thought mages would be used to that… and it wasn’t 400 km/h! I slowed down as I got closer!”∥
Elysia shrugged indignantly, then turned to the stunned mages.
“I’m registered as a mage, right?”
“Y-Yes! Confirmed!”
She placed her hand on a crystal orb at the checkpoint. It likely verified her biometrics. After confirming her identity, one of the mages asked cautiously:
“Um… what brings you here tonight? Are you here to see the Vice Tower Master?”
“Oh? I can see him?”
She’d run here on impulse, not expecting to meet Jerome so easily.
“Yes, according to our records… you’re allowed to schedule a private meeting at any time.”
The mage tapped the crystal orb a few times and nodded.
“Oh… I see.”
That was unexpected. Maybe because she was Elysia Sempherion? Or maybe because she possessed the legendary illusion spell?
Despite being just a regular mage, she was apparently given some special privileges.
“Then I won’t hesitate. But since it’s so late at night…”
“Don’t worry—he often pulls all-nighters for his research.”
“Ahh…”
In any case, good. She’d be able to meet Jerome right away.
Elysia promptly scheduled the appointment. The mage added:
“The Mage Tower runs 24/7. It’s not called ‘The Tower Where the Light Never Goes Out’ for nothing.”
The guard mage beamed with pride. Meanwhile, the chat exploded:
That’s not something to brag about LOL
Sounds like a cursed grad school lab working 24/7 hahahaha
