Chapter : 11
The Baby Saint Wants to Destroy the World!
When he first set out for the Holy City of Esperia, Consul Crom gave the assassin one final warning.
“Never let your guard down.”
Over the past five years, more than a hundred assassins had been sent, yet not a single one had succeeded in killing the troublesome child.
“This looks easier than I expected.”
Her only escort was a young boy who hardly looked threatening. Aside from him, there were only priests who had never experienced a real battle.
As long as he could infiltrate the deepest part of the temple, killing one small child should have been effortless.
Or so he had believed.
“Urgh!”
A sharp burst of pain exploded through his vision, making sparks dance before his eyes. Tears welled up and streamed down the assassin’s face.
As he writhed in agony—pain worse than death itself—Lucy let out a scoff and casually crouched in front of him.
“I wonder who trained this one. Kihol? Teron? Or maybe Azfel?”
As she effortlessly listed the names of the most notorious underworld powers on the continent, the assassin desperately struggled.
“…How do you know those names?!”
“Of course I know them. I’m honestly impressed they’re all still around. Good for them.”
As though reminiscing about old acquaintances, the little Saint smiled mockingly and gently stepped on the tips of his fingers.
“So… are they all doing well?”
Despite her elegant smile, there was an unfathomable maturity behind it.
She was only five years old—a little girl with round eyes and chubby cheeks.
So where did such terrifying strength come from?
“W-Who exactly are y—Gah!”
“Answer my question.”
Her icy whisper sent chills down his spine.
The assassin immediately clenched his teeth.
If his identity were exposed, he was to swallow the fast-acting poison capsule hidden in his mouth. Within ten seconds, he would be dead, taking every secret with him.
That was an assassin’s duty.
Crack.
The capsule shattered.
A bitter almond scent spread throughout his mouth.
But—
“Ugh…?”
“If you die now, that’ll be inconvenient for me.”
The little girl’s tiny hand forced his mouth open.
Warm light and blazing heat wrapped around his body.
The death that should have arrived never came.
The poison in his mouth disappeared.
His crushed fingers healed.
Even the place she had kicked with all her strength was restored.
“Huh…?”
A torrent of holy power poured from Lucy’s hand, enveloping his entire body.
“Oh… right. I shouldn’t heal everything.”
“Urgh!”
The moment the healing stopped, the pain returned.
She deliberately stepped on the freshly healed wound again before healing it once more.
“Just kill me already!”
“Nah. Can’t do that.”
Besides making Bahaman’s thinning hair grow back, Lucy had discovered several ways to use the overflowing divine power within her.
She couldn’t use it for direct physical attacks.
But healing injuries…
Or erasing memories…
Those were easy enough.
She had naturally learned all of this while dealing with the endless stream of assassins who had tried to kill her ever since she was a baby.
“You picked the wrong opponent.”
The carefree priests had no idea that well over a hundred assassins had already come to kill Lucy.
But if she were defeated that easily…
The name of the Great Witch Luciphella would be a disgrace.
Picking up the dagger the assassin had dropped, Lucy twirled it playfully.
“So… why don’t you tell me now? Who sent you?”
“Just kill me.”
Naturally, the assassin had no intention of talking.
“If you answer my questions, I’ll let you leave peacefully. You don’t really want to die somewhere like this, do you?”
Even after her sweet persuasion, he only clenched his jaw tighter.
“So you’re really not going to say anything?”
“I said kill me!”
Lucy leaned closer, blinking her large eyes.
The man simply shut his eyes tightly.
Looking down at him, Lucy chuckled.
“Why would I kill you? A little punishment is enough.”
“What?”
“From now on… be a good person.”
She only needed to erase the memories of him being an assassin.
Then she could dump him somewhere, and he would spend the rest of his life as a priest without even remembering who he had once been.
She had already done exactly that…
More than a hundred times.
“And yet none of them ever change their methods.”
“They’re all hopeless.”
Why were adults so foolish?
If the people in the temple ever discovered she possessed such an ability, it would become nothing but trouble.
“There’s no reason to do my enemies any favors.”
Lucy’s goal had always been to make life difficult for the temple.
There was no need to kindly inform them that assassins kept sneaking inside.
After all…
Everyone in the temple would eventually become her enemy.
The insolent Bahaman was always busy dodging her attacks.
The arrogant boy Georg 4th constantly talked back.
As for Maria…
She was about the only one worth sparing.
“Once I get my powers back…”
“I’ll make every single one of them regret everything they’ve done.”
“From changing my diapers…”
“To forcing me to eat vegetables…”
“They’ll pay for every last bit of it.”
Throwing every concealed weapon the assassin carried out the window, Lucy once again completed the perfect crime.
“You people really are unlucky.”
The assassin himself hadn’t been weak.
He had simply chosen the wrong target.
Someone like this being sent repeatedly was almost certainly Crom’s doing.
Fortunately…
It seemed her true identity still hadn’t been discovered.
“I wonder how everyone’s doing.”
The first companions Luciphella had ever had during her lonely life.
She had only managed to gather such eccentric people through her own efforts.
Always loyal—Crom.
Gruff but dependable—Beatrix.
Simple-minded but unmatched in strength—Georg 2nd.
And then…
The handsome young man with the sweet smiling eyes.
Just thinking about Jack Casanova made Lucy grimace.
The other two had always been ready to leave Lunafelt at any time, so that wasn’t surprising.
Still…
Now that she was already five years old…
She found herself missing home, if only a little.
“I miss them…”
Recalling those happier days together, Lucy hid the assassin’s weapons inside a flower vase.
Just as she considered searching the room one last time—
“Here you are! Do you know how worried we were after you suddenly disappeared?”
It was the voice of young Georg 4th behind her.
“This person suddenly collapsed.”
Feigning complete innocence, Lucy pointed toward the unconscious assassin.
As expected, the gullible Georg 4th didn’t suspect her in the slightest.
He immediately knelt down and checked the man’s pulse.
“I don’t know what’s been happening lately. Priests just keep collapsing one after another.”
“Isn’t that strange?”
After all…
No one would ever suspect a five-year-old child of being involved.
Once again, the Baby Saint—the undisputed master of playing innocent—successfully convinced everyone that yet another assassin was merely a priest who had fainted.
