Chapter 3
I quietly leaned closer to the door to overhear their conversation and managed to catch bits and pieces of what they were saying.
“It’s actually fortunate that she lost her memory. We’ve always struggled with her adoption prospects because she’s afraid of adults, so this might work out better.”
“Then…”
“We should hurry and find adoptive parents before her memories return and her condition relapses. Since she’s pretty, there’ll be plenty of people willing to take her based on looks alone.”
From the way the director spoke, it sounded like they sent children away without even checking what kind of people the adoptive parents were.
And whatever happened to the children afterward clearly wasn’t the director’s concern.
Then the Class One, Two, and Three Lisa mentioned… is it some kind of ranking system? Maybe the adoption opportunities differ depending on the class.
Just then, the door opened and Anna stepped outside.
Looking down at me coldly, she jerked her chin and said,
“Follow me.”
I silently trailed behind her.
Anna briefly explained some basic information to me since I supposedly remembered nothing.
“This is Sunflower Orphanage. You’re currently twelve years old, and your name is Lopez. The orphanage is divided into classes, and those classes…”
After explaining for a while, Anna abruptly cut herself off.
When I looked up at her curiously, she continued as though nothing had happened.
“Well, there’s no need for you to know the details. You’re currently a student in Class One. The dormitory is over there.”
Looks like she wanted to get rid of me as quickly as possible.
But judging from the director’s attitude, it didn’t seem like they intended to send me to a good adoptive family.
At this rate, I’ll need to figure out an escape route before I even finish understanding what kind of world this is.
Anna stopped in front of Class One.
The moment she opened the door, the noisy chatter inside instantly died down.
As I entered the classroom behind her, I could immediately feel hostility directed at me.
Apparently, the original owner of this body had been quite hated by the other children.
Standing quietly beside the teacher, I noticed Anna glance down at me before briefly explaining the situation.
“Due to an unfortunate incident, Lopez has lost her memory.”
Murmurs spread through the classroom before a boy’s irritated voice rang out.
“She’s obviously faking it! You seriously believe her after everything she’s done?!”
“We already confirmed whether she’s lying or not. So sit properly, Klein.”
The moment I heard that name, my fingers twitched involuntarily.
For the first time, I had heard a familiar name.
Only then did I properly notice the boy lounging carelessly in his seat.
His silver hair shimmered brilliantly under the sunlight streaming through the windows, naturally drawing everyone’s attention.
And beneath his long eyelashes were golden eyes that looked like melted honey.
He was so pretty that at first glance, I almost mistook him for a girl.
When our eyes met, he smirked.
“She’ll show her true colors soon enough.”
“Klein, stop it. Lopez already seems overwhelmed enough…”
The moment I reflexively turned toward the voice beside him, my lips parted slightly without me realizing it.
A girl with fluffy pink hair like cotton candy and large pink eyes was looking at me.
Her peach-colored cheeks, plump and rosy with healthy color, looked soft enough to touch.
The sight of such an irresistibly adorable child—completely my type—made the fog in my mind suddenly clear.
It felt like something was just about to click.
I couldn’t take my eyes off the children.
“If you say so…”
Meanwhile, Klein—who had ignored everything Anna said until now—obediently nodded at the girl’s words.
My cheeks sting.
When I turned toward the prickling sensation of someone glaring at me, I noticed another boy beside the girl staring sharply in my direction.
Black hair like the dead of night, sharp eyes, and cold blue eyes.
He was a handsome boy whose looks rivaled even Klein’s.
The indifferent-looking boy soon looked away from me and smiled gently at the girl.
“Medina is too kind for her own good.”
At the sound of the girl’s name, my eyes widened.
The scattered fragments in my mind finally connected together, and at last, a particular novel surfaced in my memory.
Found it!
I hadn’t transmigrated into just any random world.
I transmigrated into a novel!
And this was a novel I knew very well—especially because Medina was the protagonist.
Out of all the fantasy romance novels I’d ever read, this one had shocked me the most.
Unable to contain my delight at finally remembering the novel I’d transmigrated into, I quietly smiled.
I was worried this might be a completely unfamiliar world…
What a relief.
At the sound of my laughter, the children who had been whispering among themselves glared at me sharply.
If I had truly been a child, I might have shrunk back and cried under those gazes.
But I was an adult.
The stares of children weren’t enough to break me.
“Why are you suddenly laughing?”
Anna still seemed deeply offended by my backtalk in the discipline room and by the fact she had fallen over in front of me.
Her displeased expression showed no signs of softening.
Since I had already expected her hostility, I simply nodded with an innocent expression.
“I just thought of something funny.”
“See, teacher?! She says she lost her memory, but she still remembers funny things! Isn’t that suspicious?!”
Klein immediately jumped in. Anna shot me a cold look.
I calmly opened my mouth.
“When I screamed and teacher fell over—mmph!”
Startled, Anna hurriedly clamped a hand over my mouth and snapped at Klein.
“Quiet, Klein! Lopez definitely lost her memory!”
Then Anna crouched down and whispered a warning to me in a low voice.
“If you mention that incident again, it won’t end with just the switch. Understood?”
Watching Anna glare threateningly at me, I nodded obediently.
“Then, Lopez, return to your seat.”
“Where’s my seat?”
“Ah, next to the green-hair—”
The child with green hair immediately flinched.
The moment our eyes met, tears rapidly welled up in the child’s large eyes before spilling over.
“Waaah! I don’t want to sit with Lopez!”
“Teacher, poor Bill!”
Klein burst into giggles.
I quietly looked at Klein and the sobbing child.
Oddly enough, even though they were being annoying, I couldn’t bring myself to dislike them.
Maybe remembering the novel had calmed me that much.
Funny how everything’s suddenly crystal clear after not remembering anything for so long.
Where this place was.
Which novel I was inside.
And my own situation too.
While organizing the information in my head, I suddenly froze.
…Wait a second. If I really transmigrated into that story, I can’t just sit here smiling.
Because I was a disposable extra sacrificed by the original male leads—Klein and Chester—to gain the heroine’s attention.
And if that were the only issue, I wouldn’t even be worried.
True to being a disposable extra, I was destined to be completely used up and left with a miserable life.
