Prologue

The strange wedding had come to an end.

Ahan and Yeoreul were now husband and wife.

Ahan had told her to come to his room. With a nervous flutter in her chest, Yeoreul knocked softly before opening the door. Guided only by the faint glow of the room’s dim light, she stepped into the bedroom.

“Are you there?”

Sitting on the edge of the bed, he asked quietly.

Drawn by his unwavering gaze, Yeoreul approached him.

Ahan reached out with ease, pulling her into the space between his legs as he sat at the foot of the bed.

His hand slipped beneath the hem of her skirt, and her underwear was gently pulled down. Startled, Yeoreul instinctively grabbed his wrist.

She looked into Ahan’s face, and he met her gaze.

There was something strangely captivating about him—a uniquely masculine air that was both decadent and refined. His features were cold, sharp, and profound.

“Relax.”

His voice was calm and measured.

“Sit comfortably.”

He spoke with a perfectly composed expression, as though this had all been planned from the beginning.

They had gone through the wedding ceremony, so spending their first night together like any other married couple seemed, to him, the most natural course of events.

But why?

This was nothing more than a political marriage, a union without love.

Even as confusion filled Yeoreul’s face, Ahan remained unfazed. He continued lifting her skirt and removing the rest of her clothing.

“I’ll make sure it doesn’t hurt.”

From behind, he wrapped an arm around her waist. Tilting his head, he captured the lips of the breathless Yeoreul in a deep kiss.

Time blurred.

Whenever it seemed to end, it simply began again. As though he knew nothing of restraint, Ahan held her over and over without pause.

It was as if he had no end. No matter how many times he embraced her, it felt like he was desperately trying to fill something that could never truly be satisfied.

At first, Yeoreul felt only pain, but little by little, her body began to grow accustomed to his.

With difficulty, she opened her eyes.

Through her unsteady vision, she saw the pleasure reflected in Ahan’s eyes. His slightly parted lips and unfamiliar expression made him seem like a completely different person.

How many women had he shared a bed with before?

Ahan let out a warm breath.

His movements were so practiced, so natural, that even if the number were beyond counting, she wouldn’t have been surprised.

In contrast to his tireless motions, his eyes remained calm and strangely detached. Watching him, Yeoreul felt excitement and sadness wash over her at the same time.

Yet…

She was glad.

Glad that he, too, seemed moved by the moment.

The thought crossed her mind, and she almost laughed at herself for it.

This was a bond formed as husband and wife.

What would it have been like…

…if it had been a bond formed as lovers?

Yeoreul kissed Ahan again.

Their tongues tangled together in a kiss that blurred all sense of distance. Every so often, he kissed her with unexpected gentleness, as though quietly checking on her, and for fleeting moments they felt like genuine lovers.

She would sink into despair over the uncertainty of their relationship, only for those feelings to be swept away by the excitement she felt whenever she looked at him.

At the end of a sweltering summer, drenched in sweat, the two of them clung to each other, losing themselves in the moment.
