Chapter 13

Wedding Preparations

“Phew, Bora. My heart was pounding so much I couldn’t tell if the food was going into my nose or my mouth.”

“Mom. You were about to say something really embarrassing—please reflect on that.”

“No, honestly, Han Kang-moon did come out pretty impressively, didn’t he?”

“Ugh, seriously! Mom, haven’t you even heard the rumors about how awful CEO Han Kang-moon is?”

“Well, if you think about it, his words weren’t entirely wrong. Among chaebols, they really do care about legitimate eldest sons and all that.”

“Mom!”

“Oh my, why are you shouting?”

“Director Kang Yoon is not like that! Do you want me to get married, only for my husband to cheat on me and live crying in stress?”

“What are you talking about? I didn’t say anything like that. I just meant eldest legitimate sons are treated better than second sons or illegitimate sons. That’s just how it is.”

“It’s not like that!”

“Oh, honey. Look at Bora already taking her man’s side. Honestly.”

Her mother scoffed as if it was absurd and turned her head away.

“Well, eldest sons do have more advantages than legitimate ones… but from what I saw of the chairman, he seems to really care about Kang Yoon too. For us, whether he’s eldest or not doesn’t matter—if he’s smitten with Bora and spends lots of money on her, that’s all that matters.”

“That’s right. And honestly, they look perfect together visually. I’m already excited imagining how beautiful and handsome they’ll look on the wedding day.”

While her parents chatted carelessly, Bora frowned deeply and checked Kang Yoon’s message.

Bora, you looked so beautiful today. I’ll apologize on behalf of my brother for his outburst.

It’s okay. It wasn’t because of you, Kang Yoon. You looked really handsome today. Really.

“Really” might’ve been too much.

Bora wrinkled her nose, embarrassed at how overly enthusiastic she sounded.

Would you like to go somewhere with that very handsome man? You haven’t left yet, right?

Yes! Let’s go!

“Mom, Dad. I’m getting out here!”

“Hey! Where are you going?”

“I’ll go home later. You guys go ahead.”

“Bora!”

Ignoring her mother’s calls, Bora quickly got out of the car, her back full of excitement.

“Kang Yoon!”

Kang Yoon was waiting near the far end of a well-known Korean restaurant parking lot, where valet parking was being arranged.

“Come here.”

Since cars were passing by, Kang Yoon gently pulled her wrist and moved her to a safer spot.

His large, warm hand holding her wrist made Bora’s cheeks flush red.

“Where’s Han Kang-moon?”

Bora asked, looking around. Kang Yoon chuckled softly and opened the passenger door of a car that had just arrived, helping her inside.

“Grandfather was very angry and took him away. He’s probably going to suffer today.”

“Oh… your grandfather looked really handsome. He seemed very energetic too. Is he a scary person?”

“I’ve never been scolded by him, but my brother has been hit and scolded a lot since he was young.”

“That makes sense. I was so shocked earlier my heart was pounding like crazy…”

“I’m sorry. I also didn’t expect him to act so rudely even at the engagement meeting.”

“It’s okay. On the wedding day… maybe just tie him up somewhere or something so he doesn’t cause trouble…”

Kang Yoon laughed softly as he turned the steering wheel and left the restaurant.

After driving for a while, they arrived at a famous bridal boutique in Gangnam.

“Oh, this place?”

“Yes. A friend of mine runs a large wedding business and insisted I leave everything to her. This is one of the most popular bridal shops for women, but it’s very hard to book. I managed to reserve it through a connection today.”

“Wow. It really is famous. It has the largest collection of imported dresses in Korea.”

Ever since deciding to marry Kang Yoon, this was a place Bora had seen ranked at the top whenever she secretly searched for wedding dresses online.

“But I just ate, so my stomach looks a bit bloated…”

To Kang Yoon, her stomach looked perfectly flat as she held it with a worried expression.

“It doesn’t look bloated at all. Just pick whatever you like first. You don’t have to decide today—just think of it as looking around.”

“Okay. Then I’ll take a look!”

Following the staff’s guidance, Bora walked toward the rows of dresses while Kang Yoon sat down on a prepared sofa.

Most of his friends were already married, and whenever he attended weddings, he would occasionally imagine the bride who might one day stand beside him.

But over time, those fantasies faded, and recently he didn’t feel much at all even when seeing brides and grooms.

Yet imagining Bora in a wedding dress made him excited.

She was already beautiful just as she was—but in a pure white sparkling wedding dress, how much more radiant would she be?

“The bride selected three dresses. We’ll have her try them on one by one. You may take photos.”

At the staff’s words, Kang Yoon nodded and stared at the small stage with a slightly nervous expression.

“This is the first dress.”

The curtain opened.

Bora appeared wearing an A-line dress that flared from the waist, with a floral crown on her head.

The satin dress shimmered beautifully under the lights, matching her fair skin perfectly.

“Wow… that’s so beautiful.”

Kang Yoon stared blankly, capturing her shy expression on camera.

“Is it okay?”

“It’s not just okay—it’s perfect. Really.”

Bora stuck out her tongue slightly, smiling shyly at his praise.

“We’ll move on to the next dress.”

As the curtain closed again, Kang Yoon clicked his tongue in disappointment.

“This is the second dress.”

This time she appeared in a dramatic ballroom-style gown with a flower accessory on the left side of her hair.

The voluminous skirt suited her elegant features perfectly.

“Ah… this one is beautiful too.”

He took more photos.

“Everything suits you. The first one was nice too, but this one might be even better.”

“Really? I’m not sure… they’re all so pretty.”

“We’ll try the third dress now.”

The staff quickly closed the curtain again.

While changing, Kang Yoon looked through the photos he had taken.

‘She’d look amazing in anything she wears.’

He smiled seriously, as if reading an important document.

“Here is the third dress.”

He lifted his head.

The soft pink off-shoulder dress had a large ribbon accentuating the chest, and a lace skirt that flowed elegantly outward.

With a shimmering veil, Bora looked like the goddess Aphrodite had been reborn.

“Hmm… how is this?”

Kang Yoon stared at her silently for a long moment. Then he quickly raised his phone and took photos.

“This one. This is it. Wow… I can’t even think straight. You look like an angel.”

“Pardon?”

“Ah… I’m going to marry someone this pretty…”

Bora’s face turned bright red, and even the staff laughed.

“Groom reactions are usually good, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone this overwhelmed.”

“I… I think this one is my favorite too.”

“How will you proceed with the wedding? Will it be split into Part 1 and Part 2? If so, you can choose this for the main ceremony and something simpler for the reception…”

“We haven’t decided the format yet…”

“Show me everything. The prettiest ones.”

Unlike the flustered Bora, Kang Yoon calmly asked the staff to bring everything that was the most beautiful and expensive.

“Do we really have to try everything…”

“I want to see it. How can you only try a few when you’re this beautiful?”

“Honestly… is this one really the best?”

Even in heels, Kang Yoon’s tall figure looked down at her.

His gaze made her chestline feel slightly exposed under the fabric.

Seeing it, he swallowed hard and pretended to examine the dress material.

“Let’s pick this one for today. We might find something even better, so come again with your mother. What I see and what your mother sees might be different.”

“No, no! If my mom comes here, she’ll insist on wearing a hanbok AND a wedding dress. I’ll never come with her. And I trust your choice the most. I want to wear whatever my husband picks.”

At the word “husband,” Kang Yoon’s brows twitched slightly.

To be honest, the wedding itself didn’t matter much to him.

It was just a contract marriage—an arranged formality.

But now, he wanted to create the most beautiful wedding for Bora.

He wanted to see her smiling happily on that day.

“Alright. Then I’ll choose as your husband.”

At his words, Bora smiled brightly.

And once again, a soft breeze seemed to pass through Kang Yoon’s heart.

summary

“Kang-yoon… you know, there’s so much I want to say to you.” Could he hear her? Bora stared quietly at Kang-yoon’s large body, lying motionless in sleep, breathing in soft, uneven rhythms. Summoning her courage, she gently took hold of his arm. “You said it yourself, Kang-yoon. That our marriage was… a perfect contract.” The days they’d shared—far too thrilling and happy for something called a contract—flashed before her like a panorama. “You always talked about it as a contract, a contract… but in truth, you were far too kind to me. Even if it was just a contract, becoming your wife made me so happy.” Outside the large window occupying one side of the hospital room, shimmering neon lights painted the Dubai night in dazzling colors. “Han Kang-yoon. I’m asking as your contract wife.” Bora’s voice, heavy with tears, trembled softly. “Can love… be part of a contract too?”
