Chapter: 10

What You Want

Bora and Kang Yoon stood there for a long time, silently looking at each other.

“…Aren’t you coming?”

Bora spoke first.

Kang Yoon stood there dazed for a moment, then started walking at her voice.

As he took a few steps toward Bora, cherry blossom petals stuck all over the soles of his loafers.

“Let me see. I want to see how well you took it.”

Bora held out her palm with a playful expression, and Kang Yoon obediently handed over his phone.

“Wow…!”

The rows of fully bloomed cherry blossom trees looked like a thick, luxurious curtain.

Underneath them, Bora turning back while petals fluttered around her looked even more beautiful than she expected.

“You take really good photos. I got a life shot.”

Bora’s eyes sparkled as she looked up at Kang Yoon.

Even with heels on, she still had to look up at him. His eyes were dark and deep.

Feeling her heart start racing again, Bora quickly handed the phone back and looked around awkwardly.

“Oh, should we get ice cream or something?”

“Right. You said you wanted cherry blossom ice cream, didn’t you?”

“Yes! They must sell it somewhere around here.”

Now that she looked, most people were holding coffee and cotton candy, and some were even holding pink ice cream cones.

“Over there, maybe.”

Kang Yoon pointed to a shop in the distance where a long line had formed.

“Where?”

Kang Yoon, being taller than others, spotted it immediately, but Bora stretched her neck, looking around to find where he was pointing.

“Over there.”

“Huh!”

Bora stiffened when Kang Yoon suddenly lifted her by the waist.

“Can you see it? The long line of people?”

“Yes… I can see it. Please put me down.”

He’s strong.

No matter how small and slim Bora was, lifting an adult woman so easily was impressive.

“Sit here for a moment. I’ll go buy it.”

“Huh? I’ll go with you.”

“The line is too long. Your feet will hurt. Just sit and wait.”

Kang Yoon seated her on an empty bench and strode away.

“Phew… what is this? It really feels like a date…”

Bora cooled her flushed cheeks with her hand, trying to catch her breath.

“It does hurt… Mom really… I should’ve worn flats.”

She slipped her heels off slightly, finally feeling some relief.

Taking out her phone, she started taking photos of the cherry blossoms too.

The white and pink blossoms were in full bloom, showing off their peak beauty.

“It’s so pretty. I’m glad I came.”

For the past few years, she had been so focused on business that she hadn’t had time for flower festivals or autumn outings.

Yet suddenly, after her family and business situation collapsed, she ended up at a cherry blossom festival.

Life really was dynamic—who knew what would happen and when.

“As expected. I’ve got great intuition.”

Bora looked up at the voice beside her.

“Huh? Huh? Huh?”

“I told you to come see the cherry blossoms, but you kept refusing. Why are you sitting here alone?”

“Ho-how did Director Han get here?”

“What do you mean how? I came to see the cherry blossoms too. I happen to be a man who likes flowers.”

The smirk on Kang Moon’s face sent chills down Bora’s arms.

“I was a bit shocked by the unexpected news. But as you probably know, I’m the heir of the Kangsan Group.”

“So what?”

Bora looked at him blankly.

“I’ve never not gotten what I wanted.”

Something about this felt unsettling.

Bora scooted slightly away from Kang Moon as he sat down beside her.

“I heard your family requested a match from ours. That would naturally be directed to me, right? It seems my mother misunderstood and sent my younger brother instead. My apologies.”

“No, it’s fine. You don’t need to apologize.”

“Well, don’t worry about any of that. I’ll take care of everything, so you don’t need to worry.”

“Take care of what exactly?”

“I mean you don’t have to meet Kang Yoon anymore. Let’s cancel that arranged meeting.”

“What are you talking about? Cancel it?”

“Instead, meet me again. That arranged meeting.”

“You followed me all the way here just to say that nonsense?”

Just as Bora was about to respond in disbelief, Kang Yoon appeared holding two cherry blossom-colored ice cream cones.

“Kang Yoon!”

“Take this. And you, get up, hyung.”

Kang Yoon’s cold voice felt unfamiliar.

Bora took the ice cream cone and looked back and forth between the two brothers.

“I saw it. The car following mine.”

“Oh. I thought I hid it well.”

“How exactly do you hide a bright red car?”

Kang Yoon scoffed and took a bite of ice cream.

As the sweet, cold cream filled his mouth, the heat that had risen to his head seemed to cool slightly.

“Anyway, I think Mom misunderstood. This was supposed to be my spot. The arranged meeting with Bora.”

“That’s what your aunt said? That’s different from what I was told.”

“What Mom thinks doesn’t matter. You know that. I decide everything.”

“You used to. You know I’ve always let things go.”

Kang Moon glared at him.

For 36 years, Kang Yoon had always been beneath him.

Born of the same father but different mothers, Kang Yoon had always been second place in the family.

So Kang Moon believed, until the day he died, that Kang Yoon would never surpass him or take anything from him.

So naturally, even Bora should belong to him.

At most, he could discard her after getting bored—but it was unthinkable that Kang Yoon would have her first.

“Your attitude is a bit much, don’t you think? Do you even understand the situation?”

“Your attitude isn’t much better. Seems like you don’t understand it at all.”

After finishing his ice cream, even eating the cone neatly, Kang Yoon wiped the corner of his lips with his thumb.

“I’m going to marry Yoon Bora.”

“What?”

“I already told Grandpa. Aunt knows too.”

“…Hey, Han Kang Yoon.”

Enraged, Kang Moon swung a fist at him.

But Kang Yoon quickly blocked it and shoved him back.

“Agh…!”

Kang Moon fell to the ground and shouted at the onlookers.

“What are you looking at? Never seen a person before? Move along!”

People scattered at his outburst.

Bora stood up, holding her half-eaten ice cream, and fixed her heels.

“Kang Yoon, are you okay?”

“I’m fine. I’m just a little embarrassed that you had to see that.”

“…Director Han Kang Moon, I will marry Kang Yoon. So I’d appreciate it if you never act so rude again.”

“Bora!”

“Don’t call me anymore either. I won’t answer. Let’s go, Kang Yoon.”

Bora hooked her arm through Kang Yoon’s and walked away with long strides.

“Bora! I’m better than that guy!”

As Kang Moon tried to follow, Kang Yoon shot him a cold glare. Kang Moon gritted his teeth, mouthed “See you at home,” and turned away angrily.

After walking quickly for a while, Bora slowed down once the noise faded.

“Wow, Director Han was that intense…”

“That intense?”

Kang Yoon looked down at her, amused.

“I didn’t expect him to be so petty.”

“Hahaha!”

For the first time, Kang Yoon laughed out loud at her words.

Bora felt slightly awkward as he bent over laughing.

“You’re not wrong. He called yesterday too.”

“That really is the perfect word. Petty.”

“You’re not going to fight when you get home, are you?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never fought him before.”

“Oh. Are you two close?”

“It’s not that. I’ve just never beaten him before.”

Bora looked at him quietly.

Cherry blossom petals gently fell onto Kang Yoon’s hair and shoulders as he walked.

Bora reached out and carefully brushed them off.

Watching her, Kang Yoon suddenly pulled her slender waist closer.

“It’s the first time. The first time I’ve tried to take something he wanted.”

His low, deep voice settled into her ear.

Bora swallowed hard, feeling her heart pound.

“…Me? Am I the first thing you’re trying to take?”

Kang Yoon nodded at her slightly trembling voice.

“Yes. Yoon Bora is the first. I’m daring to try.”

A soft spring breeze brushed between them.

Bora stared up at his steady gaze for a long moment.

Then suddenly, like a sneeze she couldn’t hold back, the words burst out of her heart.

“Then from now on, take whatever you want. I’ll help you. I’ll make it happen.”

summary

“Kang-yoon… you know, there’s so much I want to say to you.” Could he hear her? Bora stared quietly at Kang-yoon’s large body, lying motionless in sleep, breathing in soft, uneven rhythms. Summoning her courage, she gently took hold of his arm. “You said it yourself, Kang-yoon. That our marriage was… a perfect contract.” The days they’d shared—far too thrilling and happy for something called a contract—flashed before her like a panorama. “You always talked about it as a contract, a contract… but in truth, you were far too kind to me. Even if it was just a contract, becoming your wife made me so happy.” Outside the large window occupying one side of the hospital room, shimmering neon lights painted the Dubai night in dazzling colors. “Han Kang-yoon. I’m asking as your contract wife.” Bora’s voice, heavy with tears, trembled softly. “Can love… be part of a contract too?”
