Prologue
The Empire’s hero—and its monster.
An elegant appearance, yet a savage temperament.
The words that described him within the Empire were nothing but contradictions.
Caron Phairos.
He was salvation, and he was a god.
“……”
El stared wide-eyed at the carriage standing in the distance.
All of this had begun from El’s sin—daring to love him.
And so, El was not unaware that it was her own fault.
“Caron!”
El’s gaze fell upon the lovely young lady running toward him from afar.
“El.”
Caron’s lips smoothly released that name—
a name that did not belong to her.
The bright and cheerful young lady linked arms with Caron and smiled radiantly.
“Caron, were you waiting for me? I’m touched.”
“Let’s go inside.”
A similar name.
But the look in Caron’s eyes was different from the one he had once given her.
Since when was Caron someone who could smile with such pure innocence?
El’s heart felt as though it had fallen onto the dirt floor and was rolling away.
Wretched. Pitiful.
“Caron…”
She quietly whispered his name under her breath.
A long tear slid down her cheek and clung precariously to the tip of her chin.
Her desperate love received no reply.
To El, Caron was someone far, far beyond her reach.
Please… just once… look this way.
With a pleading heart, El fixed her gaze on Caron, who was drifting farther and farther away.
But Caron never once noticed her.
Upon the precious heart El had dropped onto the dirt ground, heavy tears fell and soaked it through.
