Chapter 06
“꺄- 아- 아악-”
“Aaaah—!”
“물러서! 빨리 물러서라고!”
“Back up! Move back!”
“구급차! 빨리 구급차 불러!”
“Call an ambulance! Hurry!”
“김 선생, 빨리 애들 교실로 들여보내!”
“Teacher Kim, get the students back to their classrooms!”
“야! 빨리 들어가!”
“Hey! Go inside!”
Just moments ago, the playground had been full of laughter.
Now it was filled with screams and the shouting voices of teachers.
In one word—complete chaos.
There was no better way to describe the situation.
“아- 어떡해. 죽은 거 아니야?”
“Oh no… did he die?”
“으- 토할 것 같아.”
“Ugh… I feel like throwing up.”
“야, 저 피 봐.”
“Hey… look at all that blood.”
“도대체 이게 무슨 일이야.”
“What the hell happened?”
Teachers and students gathered around the boy lying on the ground, bleeding.
But for both the adults and the children, this kind of situation was something they had never faced before.
The terrible sight froze everyone.
No one dared to step forward.
They could only panic helplessly.
“비켜주세요. 비켜주세요.”
“Please move. Move aside.”
Suddenly, pushing through the crowd—
In-hye rushed toward the scene.
Behind her followed Chief Choi and Chaerin, both wearing serious expressions.
“살아있어요?”
“Is he alive?”
In-hye quickly checked the boy’s condition.
“맥은 아직 약하게 잡혀요.”
“There’s still a weak pulse.”
Then she shouted urgently.
“채린아, 빨리 119에 전화해.”
“Chaerin, call 119 right now.”
“그리고 반장님은 여기 통제 좀 해주세요.”
“And Chief, please control the crowd.”
The injuries were severe.
It looked like multiple fractures and possible brain bleeding from a fall.
Moving him carelessly could cause even worse damage.
All she could do for now was press a handkerchief against the visible bleeding and wait for the ambulance.
“거기 119죠. 여기 사람이… 네? 잠시만요. 여기가 너무 시끄러워서.”
“Hello, 119? Someone here… yes? Wait a second, it’s too noisy here.”
Chaerin ran inside the building to escape the screaming noise while speaking on the phone.
“반장님 여기 정리 좀 해주세요. 빨리요.”
“Chief, please clear this area. Quickly!”
In-hye shouted again.
She was afraid the boy might go into secondary shock from the surrounding chaos.
“모두 물러서세요. 경찰입니다!”
“Everyone step back! Police!”
Chief Choi raised his police badge high and shouted loudly.
But curiosity had already replaced fear in the students’ minds.
They refused to leave.
Then—
Click.
Click.
Phone cameras began taking pictures.
“와, 씨- 대박.”
“Wow… this is insane.”
“나 이런 거 처음 봐.”
“I’ve never seen something like this before.”
“이거 올리면 조회 수 장난 아니겠다.”
“If I upload this, the views will be crazy.”
“야! 라이브 켜!”
“Hey! Start a live stream!”
To some students, their dying classmate looked like nothing more than content for social media.
“아- 씨. 이게 무슨 일이야.”
“Damn it… what is this?”
At that moment the principal arrived, panting.
“사진 찍지 마! 찍지 말라고!”
“Stop taking pictures! I said stop!”
He snatched phones away from students.
“최 선생, 이 선생! 애들 핸드폰 다 뺏어요!”
“Teachers! Take all their phones!”
If those pictures spread online, the school’s reputation would be destroyed.
But more than that—
he feared being forced into a disgraceful retirement.
“지금 상황 한 놈이라도 인터넷에 올리면 끝까지 찾아서 가만 안 둘 줄 알아!”
“If even one of you uploads this online, I will track you down and make sure you regret it!”
Right now, protecting his position seemed more important than the boy dying on the ground.
“교장 선생님, 누가 떨어진 겁니까?”
“Principal, who fell?”
Dong-gyu’s homeroom teacher rushed to the scene, his face pale.
The moment he heard that a student had fallen—
only one name flashed through his mind.
“선생님이세요? 혹시 이 아이 누군지 아세요?”
“Are you the teacher? Do you know who this student is?”
In-hye asked urgently.
They needed to know his blood type from the school records.
Every second mattered.
“잠… 잠시만요. 교복을 안 입고 있어서….”
“W-wait… he’s not wearing a uniform…”
Because of the festival, students were wearing casual clothes.
There was no name tag.
And his face was swollen and covered in blood.
It was almost impossible to recognize him.
“잘 좀 보세요. 시간이 없다고요.”
“Look carefully. We don’t have time.”
Suddenly—
The boy coughed violently.
“커—억!”
Blood spilled from his mouth.
“꺄아악!”
Students screamed again.
Then someone whispered.
“야… 쟤 걔 아니야?”
“Hey… isn’t that him?”
“누구?”
“Who?”
“김민준.”
“Kim Min-jun.”
The name spread quickly.
“쟤 김민준 아니야?”
“Isn’t that Min-jun?”
Students stared at his wrist.
A gold bracelet was shining.
“저 팔찌 민준이 거잖아.”
“That bracelet… Min-jun always wears it.”
“명품이라고 했던 거.”
“He said it was a luxury brand.”
Slowly, the doubt turned into certainty.
“쟤 김민준이야.”
“That’s Kim Min-jun.”
Soon the entire school was buzzing with his name.
“자살한 거야?”
“Did he commit suicide?”
“걔가 왜?”
“Why would he?”
“누가 민 거 아니야?”
“What if someone pushed him?”
But one thought troubled everyone.
Who would dare attack Min-jun?
Suddenly—
“민준아—!”
A woman screamed and ran through the crowd.
It was Min-jun’s mother, the chairwoman of the school board.
When she saw her son lying in blood—
“악— 안 돼!”
“No—!”
She collapsed instantly.
“어머니! 정신 차리세요!”
“Ma’am! Please wake up!”
The homeroom teacher caught her before she hit the ground.
His face turned pale.
Of all students—
why did it have to be Min-jun?
Meanwhile—
Min-jun’s breathing became rougher.
In-hye shouted anxiously.
“채린아, 어디쯤이래?”
“Chaerin, where are they now?”
“거의 다 왔대요.”
“They’re almost here.”
Then—
SIRENS.
An ambulance rushed through the school gate.
Paramedics ran toward Min-jun with a stretcher.
“여기요. 아직 맥박은 있어요.”
“He still has a weak pulse.”
In-hye spoke quickly.
“기도 삽관부터 해야 합니다.”
“We need to secure his airway immediately.”
A paramedic looked at her.
“혹시 의사세요?”
“Are you a doctor?”
“네.”
“Yes.”
She answered firmly.
“지금 흉관 삽입도 해야 하니까 준비해주세요.”
“Prepare for chest tube insertion immediately.”
Her calm authority made the paramedics move quickly.
“16프렌치… 아니, 28프렌치 CTD 주세요.”
“Give me a 28 French chest tube.”
Sweat ran down In-hye’s forehead.
But she never stopped.
She refused to let the boy die.
Finally—
“응급처치는 끝났습니다.”
“The emergency treatment is done.”
“조심해서 옮겨주세요.”
“Move him carefully.”
The ambulance doors closed.
SIRENS echoed again.
Then it disappeared beyond the school gate.
“휴…”
In-hye finally collapsed onto the ground, exhausted.
Her clothes were covered in sweat and blood.
“괜찮으세요?”
“Are you okay?”
Chaerin gently reached out her hand.
“어… 괜찮아.”
“I’m okay…”
In-hye smiled faintly and reached for her hand.
But suddenly—
A student shouted.
“저기 옥상에 누가 있어요!”
“There’s someone on the rooftop!”
Everyone looked up.
The principal shouted.
“거기 누구야! 움직이지 마!”
“Who’s up there?! Don’t move!”
A head that had been looking down from the rooftop quickly disappeared.
“제가 올라가 보겠습니다.”
“I’ll go check.”
Min-jun’s homeroom teacher ran toward the building.
Several teachers and curious students followed him.
Rooftop
BANG!
The rooftop door slammed open.
“너희 여기서 뭐 하는 거야!”
“What are you doing here?!”
He saw five students.
Four were standing together.
One sat alone against the wall, head lowered.
“여기서 무슨 짓을 한 거야!”
“What did you do here?!”
The four boys rushed forward.
“선생님… 큰일 났어요.”
“Teacher… something terrible happened.”
“민준이가 떨어졌어요.”
“Min-jun fell.”
The teacher forced himself to stay calm.
“한 명씩 말해.”
“One at a time.”
He pointed to Hyeong-jin.
“형진이, 네가 말해.”
“Hyeong-jin, you explain.”
Hyeong-jin’s eyes filled with tears.
“동규가… 민준이를…”
“Dong-gyu… Min-jun…”
He couldn’t continue.
The teacher’s voice trembled.
“동규가 민준이를 어떻게 했어?”
“What did Dong-gyu do to him?”
Finally—
Hyeong-jin spoke.
“동규가 민준이를 쇠파이프로 때렸어요.”
“Dong-gyu hit Min-jun with an iron pipe.”
“그래서?”
“And then?”
“머리를 맞은 민준이가… 비틀거리다가… 떨어졌어요.”
“After getting hit… Min-jun staggered… and fell.”
Dong-gyu’s body trembled slightly.
But he said nothing.
He only kept his head down.
Breathing heavily.
“이동규… 이게 사실이야?”
“Lee Dong-gyu… is that true?”
At that moment—
POLICE SIRENS echoed.
Students shouted from below.
“경찰 왔다!”
“The police are here!”
Dong-gyu’s body shook again.
The teacher shouted to the others.
“아무도 움직이지 마!”
“No one move!”
The rooftop had just become a crime scene.
Meanwhile, rumors spread through the school.
“동규가 파이프로 때리고 던졌대.”
“They say Dong-gyu hit him with a pipe and threw him.”
“민준이 떨어질 때 웃었다더라.”
“They say he was laughing when Min-jun fell.”
The story changed with every mouth it passed through.
Soon it became something completely different.
Inside the classroom—
Chaerin sat quietly by the window.
Watching the playground.
Only one student approached her.
Seung-hyun.
“채린아, 너도 봤어?”
“Chaerin, did you see it?”
“어… 뭐.”
“Yeah… kind of.”
He looked at her carefully.
“넌 하나도 안 놀란 얼굴인데.”
“You don’t look shocked at all.”
“놀랐어.”
“I am shocked.”
Of course she was.
Anyone would be.
She was simply hiding it.
Seung-hyun grabbed her hand suddenly.
“만져봐. 아직도 심장 엄청 뛰어.”
“Touch it. My heart’s still racing.”
Chaerin quickly pulled her hand away.
“너 죽을래? 징그럽게.”
“Are you crazy? That’s disgusting.”
He grinned.
“왜? 설렜어?”
“Why? Did your heart race?”
“미쳤어?”
“Are you insane?”
She turned her head away.
He laughed again.
“설레지 마. 난 너 감당 못 한다.”
“Don’t fall for me. You couldn’t handle me.”
“헛소리하지 말고 저리 가.”
“Stop talking nonsense and go away.”
Just then—
The classroom speakers turned on.
“지금 즉시 모든 전교생은 체육관으로 모여주시기 바랍니다.”
“All students must immediately gather in the gymnasium.”
The emergency announcement echoed through the school.
