Chapter 10
He didn’t think too much about it. He assumed that Rong Ci had probably gone back to the Rong family home.
When he entered the bathroom, he suddenly remembered that whenever Rong Ci went back to the Rong family in the past, she always took Feng Jingxin with her.
But today, she had unusually not taken their daughter.
Could it be that she hadn’t gone back to the Rong family?
Or maybe something had happened at the Rong family’s house.
Thinking of what Cheng Yuan had said when he left the company that afternoon, Feng Tingshen felt that was probably the case.
He paused for a moment, but he had no intention of getting involved.
The next morning, while eating breakfast, Feng Tingshen said to Feng Jingxin, “Your school enrollment procedures are done. Report to school tomorrow morning.”
“Got it.” Feng Jingxin wrinkled her small nose. “Dad, can you take me to school tomorrow?”
“I might not have time.”
“Okay…” Her eyes rolled around, then suddenly lit up. She said happily, “Then I’ll call Aunt Lin Wu later and ask her to take me!”
Before Feng Tingshen could reply, his phone rang.
It was a call from the old family house.
When he answered, it was Old Madam Feng’s voice on the other end.
“I heard you’ve returned to the country?”
“Yes.”
“Did Xin Xin come back with you?”
“She did.”
“I haven’t seen Xin Xin for so long. I miss her. Tonight, you and Xiao Ci bring Xin Xin back for dinner.”
“Alright.”
The old lady asked again, “Where’s Xiao Ci? Let me talk to her.”
“She’s not here.”
“At this hour? Why isn’t she there?”
“She probably went back to the Rong family.”
“Probably? You don’t even know where your wife went?”
Feng Tingshen said nothing.
“You—”
The old lady sighed and finally fell silent.
Only then did Feng Tingshen soften his tone slightly and change the subject. “Have you eaten?”
“I’m full from anger!”
Feng Tingshen smiled faintly and continued eating calmly.
The old lady knew that this grandson of hers had always had his own ideas since he was young.
Given the current state of his marriage with Rong Ci, he had already made a big concession.
With his personality, even if it was for his own good, she couldn’t push him too hard.
Thinking of this, she sighed again. “Forget it. I have nothing to say to you. Hmph.”
“See you tonight.”
“You—hmph!”
The old lady angrily hung up.
At first, Feng Jingxin hadn’t paid attention. After hearing a few sentences, she became curious. “Dad, who was that?”
“Your great-grandmother.” Thinking of what the old lady had said, Feng Tingshen dialed Rong Ci’s number while speaking. “She wants us to go back for dinner tonight.”
The old lady treated Feng Jingxin very well, and Feng Jingxin liked her too. She said happily, “Okay! I haven’t seen Great-Grandma in a long time. I miss her.”
Feng Tingshen looked at his phone and hummed in response.
At that moment, Rong Ci was also eating breakfast at the Rong family home.
When she saw Feng Tingshen’s call, she paused.
She no longer felt surprise or joy at his calls.
After hesitating for two seconds, she answered. “Hello.”
“Grandma wants us to go back for dinner tonight.”
“…Alright, I know.”
“Come back this evening and pick up the child.”
Rong Ci didn’t want to return to his place. Besides, even if she personally went to pick up her daughter, her daughter might not be happy about it.
Why make the effort for no reward?
“Let the driver take her there. I’ll drive there myself after work.”
It would be rush hour after work.
This arrangement was indeed the most convenient.
But when it came to Feng Jingxin, Rong Ci had always preferred to handle everything personally and enjoyed doing so. She had never complained about trouble.
Hearing her say this now, Feng Tingshen felt a little surprised.
Still, he didn’t think much of it. It was a small matter, not worth overthinking.
“Alright.”
He hung up.
This time, Feng Jingxin knew who had been on the other end of the call.
“Was it Mom?”
“Yes.”
“So Mom will go back to Great-Grandma’s place with us?”
“Yes.”
Before saying anything else, Feng Jingxin instinctively frowned.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to see her mother.
And it wasn’t that she didn’t miss her.
Actually, she hadn’t seen her mother in a long time. And for the first time ever, her mother hadn’t contacted her for more than half a month.
When she thought about her mother, she did miss her a little.
But if her mother could go to the old house with them tonight, it meant she had already returned from her business trip.
She had only found out her mother was on a business trip the morning after she herself returned home.
When she saw her mother wasn’t home, she had been very happy.
She wanted to spend more time with Aunt Wu while her mother was away.
Because once her mother came back, she wouldn’t be able to see Aunt Wu often anymore.
So she had been hoping her mother would come back later.
But unexpectedly, her mother returned after only two days.
Since Mom was back, she definitely wouldn’t agree to let Aunt Wu take her to school tomorrow.
And if Mom found out about Aunt Wu’s racing competition tomorrow night, she surely wouldn’t let her go watch either.
Thinking of this, her mood immediately worsened.
Moreover, she had already told Aunt Wu that she would take her to school tomorrow morning, and Aunt Wu had agreed.
What should she do now?
Feng Jingxin looked dejected. “Dad…”
Feng Tingshen looked at her. “What is it?”
She could ask Dad to talk to Mom and let Aunt Wu take her to school tomorrow.
But if Mom heard about it, she might argue with Dad again…
So annoying!
Feng Jingxin lost her appetite.
She could give in about going to school tomorrow and let Mom take her.
But no matter what, she had to go to Aunt Wu’s racing competition tomorrow night.
Thinking of this, she acted cute and said, “You promised to take me to watch Aunt Wu’s race tomorrow night. But if Mom finds out, she definitely won’t let me go. So we can’t let Mom know. If she asks tomorrow, can you help me cover it up?”
“Alright.”
After getting Feng Tingshen’s promise, Feng Jingxin felt a little better.
Soon after, Feng Tingshen finished breakfast and left.
When Rong Ci arrived at the company that day, she did not run into Feng Tingshen again.
At noon, Old Madam Rong called and asked her to have lunch together at “Yan Hao.”
“Yan Hao” was located near the Feng Group building. It was only a few minutes’ walk from Rong Ci’s company.
As Rong Ci left the company and reached the corner near the entrance of “Yan Hao,” she heard someone say:
“Tingshen, if you hadn’t helped just now, I might not have secured this contract no matter how hard I tried. Thank you so much.”
That familiar voice—
Rong Ci stopped immediately.
Peeking around the corner, she clearly saw the side profile of her biological father, Lin Lihai.
At that moment, Feng Tingshen said, “Uncle, you’re too polite.”
Rong Ci slowly clenched her fist.
She could hear that Feng Tingshen’s tone was gentler than usual.
The people he treated this way were usually those he valued.
But she didn’t believe he valued Lin Lihai because of her.
And he definitely hadn’t helped Lin Lihai because of her.
After Lin Lihai divorced her mother, she and her father had rarely met.
Now, the only daughter Lin Lihai publicly acknowledged was Lin Wu.
The father-daughter bond between her and Lin Lihai had long disappeared.
Sure enough, Lin Lihai continued, “Wu Wu is here alone. Her mother and I aren’t at ease. I’ll have to trouble you to look after her more in the future.”
