chapter 23
I let out a small laugh. Akaterian acting spoiled was adorable. It seemed he didn’t like the idea of me baking bread for the other dragons too.
Still, the baby dragon appeared to understand that this was the best option. He was only pouting for the sake of it. While soothing him, a thought suddenly crossed my mind, and I called for Hiser.
“I have a favor to ask.”
“A favor?”
“I want you to find someone.”
At my words, Hiser narrowed his eyes slightly.
Looking at him, I said,
“Please find out where the missing Master of the Magic Tower is.”
Hiser accepted my request without hesitation. Though, he did ask with a meaningful look how I knew the Master of the Magic Tower had disappeared.
I awkwardly brushed it off by saying I’d heard rumors, but…
If it was suspicious Hiser, he had probably seen right through my lie.
The reason I wanted to find the Magic Tower Master was because of Izael. To prevent Izael’s descent into darkness, I first had to find his father—the Master of the Magic Tower.
Let’s not think about that for now.
I rubbed at my throbbing temples. There were already plenty of other problems I needed to worry about.
Preparing for the bakery opening in a few days was important, but there was something even more concerning.
Quite some time had already passed since Izael arrived at the estate. Which meant it was about time for a major incident to occur.
If my memory’s correct, it’s today.
Marquis Felicita loved his wife dearly.
Unfortunately, the Marchioness passed away from illness not long after giving birth to Shuen. In noble society, it was considered natural to remarry sooner rather than later once a spouse died.
Among those nobles, Marquis Felicita was a rare man who remained devoted to a single love.
He refused to remarry and continued living alone while cherishing the memory of his late wife. One reason he could never harshly scold Shuen was because she looked exactly like her deceased mother.
But despite that, an incident would occur where the Marquis, consumed by rage, would slap Shuen across the face.
Their relationship was already far from good, but after this incident, it would become irreparably terrible.
Understandably so.
I stared at the jewelry box sitting atop the vanity. Inside, on the velvet cloth, rested a pendant necklace bordered with diamonds.
It was the final keepsake the Marchioness had left for her beloved daughter.
And tonight, Shuen Felicita would sell that necklace at an auction house.
It was only briefly mentioned in the side stories as an event meant to show just how rotten Shuen’s personality was.
I needed to avoid letting her relationship with the Marquis worsen any further. After looking at the pendant, I shut the jewelry box.
“As long as it doesn’t get sold, everything will be fine.”
I carefully made my plans and managed to reduce my accumulated warnings to zero a few hours earlier.
All that remained now was to quietly wait for the night to pass.
