Chapter 9
Timetable
The little wizard with fluffy golden hair thought seriously for a moment.
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know? Then what were you thinking about?!”
Michael felt that because of these two friends—Anthony and Terry—his life would probably be shortened by a few years.
As for the elegant yet fast dining etiquette he mentioned…
A poor orphanage always came up with many ways to send children away,
even though none of them were useful except for tormenting the children both physically and mentally.
Perhaps the only ones who benefited were the caretakers,
who then had more reasons to criticize and scold.
In that suffering, Xien was forced to learn some things, like etiquette—
including dining, walking, and sleeping habits.
Luckily I got out of there,
Xien thought.
Otherwise, the soon-to-be unemployed caretaker Anna definitely wouldn’t have let me off easily.
Inside the Hogwarts Great Hall,
Dumbledore was chatting and laughing with the professors at the head table,
Xien was eating.
Michael was chatting up other witches,
Xien was eating.
Terry was taking notes on Dumbledore’s speech,
Xien was eating.
Only when the noise in the hall gradually quieted down and the food on the tables disappeared—
“Now that everyone has eaten and drunk their fill,”
Xien heard Dumbledore’s loud voice.
Full?
Not really.
Xien thought silently.
Dumbledore continued speaking, giving three warnings:
no entering the room at the far right of the fourth-floor corridor,
no entering the Forbidden Forest,
and no wandering at night.
“And now, before we go to bed, let us all sing the school song together!”
Dumbledore called out loudly.
Xien looked at him and noticed that all the professors around him had stiff smiles.
Soon, he understood why.
“So terrible.”
Xien covered his ears.
“If you don’t want to hear it, then you have to sing!”
Michael sang passionately, completely out of tune.
“If you don’t bother others, others will bother you!”
“That makes sense.”
So Xien also began to sing:
Hogwarts,
Hogwarts,
Hogwarts,
Please teach us knowledge,
Whether we are bald old men or children with scraped knees,
Our minds can take in some interesting things.
Because right now our brains are empty,
Filled with air, dead flies, and trivial nonsense,
Teach us something of value,
Give back what we have forgotten,
You only need to do your best, and leave the rest to us,
We will study hard until we turn to dust.
“You sing really well!”
After it ended, Michael leaned over.
Xien nodded—he had just applied a tune from a pop song from his previous life, and the effect was pretty good.
At least, the howling around him became much quieter.
Soon, they followed a tall prefect out of the Great Hall,
up the spiral staircase,
up the spiral staircase,
still going up the spiral staircase…
“This staircase is going to kill me!”
Michael leaned on the railing, looking lifeless.
“You just said the prefect’s long legs could kill you.”
The wizard named Anthony rolled his eyes.
“What?! You can eat pudding carelessly, but you can’t talk nonsense! Anthony, that’s a secret between brothers! How could you expose me!”
For some reason, Michael suddenly regained his energy and pounced over to tickle Anthony.
By the time they entered the common room, Xien’s face had turned pale.
If the staircase had been any longer, his body wouldn’t have been able to handle it.
“I need to find a way…”
Xien panted heavily and muttered.
At this moment, all the Ravenclaw first-years had gathered in the common room.
A golden-haired prefect stood there, smiling as she waited for the young wizards to catch their breath.
Once everyone’s breathing steadied, she spoke:
“Congratulations! I am Prefect Penelope Clearwater. I’m very happy to welcome you to Ravenclaw House.
Our emblem is an eagle, soaring high where none can reach.
Our common room is located at the top of Ravenclaw Tower.
Through the arched windows of the round common room, you can see the entire Hogwarts grounds:
the Black Lake, the Forbidden Forest, the Quidditch pitch, and the greenhouses.
Other houses are not fortunate enough to enjoy such a view.
Of course, some people think that’s not a good thing, but I can tell you—
if you learn to ride a broom, it will be wonderful!
Oh, and our house ghost is the Grey Lady.
Others say she never speaks, but she does talk to Ravenclaws.
A little rumor says she lived in the same era as our founder—perhaps they are related?
When you’re lost or can’t find something, she is especially useful.
I’m sure you will have a wonderful night.
Our four-poster beds are covered with soft sky-blue silk blankets,
and the sound of the wind outside the windows is very soothing.
Let me say it again: congratulations on becoming part of the smartest, most agile, and most interesting house at Hogwarts!”
She didn’t waste a single word, yet her short speech lit up the eyes of the young wizards.
That was also why Michael and the other Ravenclaws applauded so enthusiastically.
“Flying broom…”
Xien remembered that some Ravenclaws with excellent flying skills would fly back to the tower.
He silently noted this down and ranked its importance just after obtaining a scholarship.
Then he carefully observed the place—
The Ravenclaw common room.
It was said to be one of the most airy and spacious rooms in Hogwarts Castle.
A large circular room, with elegant arched windows, decorated with blue and bronze silk.
Students could see beautiful scenery outside through the windows.
The ceiling was domed and decorated with stars, and the deep blue carpet below was also dotted with stars.
There were tables, chairs, and bookshelves, and in the alcove opposite the door stood a white marble bust of Rowena Ravenclaw.
Beside the statue was a door leading to the dormitories above, which Prefect Penelope was now pointing at.
“Now, come to me one by one to collect your timetable, then go through this door to your dormitory. Your dorm information is also on the back.”
The prefect calmly directed the young Ravenclaws to line up.
Xien took his timetable and looked at it—
The most difficult subject, Potions, was on Monday morning, with two consecutive classes.
This instantly gave him a sense of urgency. He wanted to rush back to the dormitory and review Magical Drafts and Potions. He had only memorized it once—
If he couldn’t recall something, it would be troublesome. The Half-Blood Prince wouldn’t carefully teach him.
“Xien!”
Michael called out excitedly. Xien turned his head in confusion.
“My grandma said people who love food can’t be bad!”
He shook his timetable.
On the back it read:
Dormitory 404: Xien Green, Michael Corner.
With Michael throwing an arm around his shoulders (one-sidedly), they entered the dormitory.
Inside, the walls were decorated with blue and silver ornaments,
each bed had its own bookshelf, and the arched windows were draped with blue silk.
Xien ignored all that and looked at the thick blue bedding.
I won’t freeze anymore, he thought.
