Chapter 05
Bunny laid out all the things she had brought in a neat row, then placed the supplies Roden had given her beside them—towels, pajamas, a pillow, toothpaste, and more.
With her tiny hands, she carefully organized everything. She placed Toto, the Demon King bear, and the elephant piggy bank beside the bed, then sat down with a satisfied sigh, wiping away imaginary sweat from her forehead.
Knock knock.
At the sound of the knock, Bunny jumped up.
“Yes!!”
She tiptoed, hopped up, and grabbed the doorknob to open it.
Standing there was Jessie, the maid with bright red hair. She still wore a stern expression. She bowed slightly.
“Nice to meet you, Lady Bunny. I’m Jessie, your assigned maid. I’ll be assisting you from today.”
“Hello, Demon—”
Oops. If she revealed she was a future Demon King, she might get eaten!
Dangerous House of Yudia!
“I-I’m Bunny, a 4-year-old who dreams of becoming a great magi… mage!”
Jessie’s cheek twitched for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure and held out the documents in her arms.
“Yes. I’ve brought your materials. This is your schedule. You will start in F-Class, the easiest level. You can move up to A-Class depending on your grades.”
Bunny blinked as the fast explanation poured out.
“This week I will guide you to class since you’re new.”
“Yes…”
“This mansion is called the ‘House of Trials.’ It is a boarding school run by the House of Yudia to evaluate talent and provide structured education.”
“Yes…”
Bunny nodded blankly, clearly not understanding anything.
Seeing this, Jessie knelt down to meet her eyes.
“So, just attend classes every day. Can you read?”
“Yes! Bunny is a genius!”
She proudly puffed her chest. Jessie couldn’t help but smile faintly.
“If you can read, you’ll rise quickly. There will also be a summoning ceremony soon. If you summon a strong spirit, your rank will increase immediately.”
“Summoning spirit?”
“Yes. Those with Yudia blood can summon divine beasts or sacred artifacts. The House of Yudia carries the blessing of the gods.”
Rumble—
Bunny froze.
‘Bunny… doesn’t have god’s blessing…?!’
Luriel had said it clearly before.
Divine power and demonic power are opposites. If a demon is exposed to strong holy power, they turn to ash.
‘I’m doomed…’
Bunny imagined herself turning into dust.
“What if I can’t summon anything?”
“That has never happened. Don’t worry. If you are of Yudia blood, you will succeed.”
BOOM!
Thunder exploded again in Bunny’s imagination.
This was her second major crisis.
‘Because… I’m not even human…’
Jessie noticed Bunny’s stiff expression.
“Well then, I’ll come get you for dinner later. Please rest for now.”
“Yes…”
Click.
The door closed.
Bunny immediately ran and flopped onto the bed.
“Luri… Bunny is totally doomed…”
That was the only word she knew for despair.
“Just as ordered, I brought the girl from the orphanage. My lord.”
Roden Heiner reported with his head lowered.
Behind a desk full of documents, an elderly man slowly looked up.
Sharp eyes, a firm mouth, slightly faded silver hair, and a rigid posture that showed his strict nature.
“Do we know whose child she is?”
“Not yet, my lord.”
“So they suddenly claim a bloodline from an orphanage…”
The Duke clicked his tongue in annoyance.
The House of Yudia was a sacred lineage carrying divine blood.
If the bloodline was real, they could summon divine beings. That was why they strictly controlled their lineage.
But over time, the number of branch families had grown too large.
So large that most residents of the territory were now distant relatives.
The current Duke, Ludbride Yudia, found the entire situation absurd.
The original plan of his ancestors was to create an army made only of Yudia bloodline members capable of summoning beasts.
But by the time he inherited the title, the situation was already chaotic.
Two children had already been lost from the system—one through marriage with a beastfolk, another abandoned as an illegitimate child.
To prevent further chaos, he intended to end the entire “House of Trials” system.
If the children failed to meet standards by age twenty, he would sever their divine blessing and instead provide financial support.
Otherwise, the rapidly growing branch families would become unmanageable.
“Was she raised in an orphanage?”
“….”
At the question, Roden Heiner thought of Bunny.
Her chubby cheeks, oversized bag, bright smile, and tiny sausage-like hands.
“She was… adorable.”
“…What?”
The Duke frowned.
That was not the answer he expected.
But Roden did not elaborate further.
“Yes! Let’s begin class. Good luck, Lady Bunny.”
“Yes! Bunny will read books! Genius dem—”
King.
…secret!
Bunny cut herself off and walked proudly into the classroom, sitting in the very front seat.
It was the smallest desk, perfectly suited for her size.
‘Perfect score… become noble lady!’
She placed her book on the desk.
“Today we will start from page 27. Who would like to read?”
Hehe.
Bunny smirked and raised her hand confidently.
Easy!
“Oh! The new student… Lady Bunny? Please read.”
“Yes!”
She stood up proudly and opened the book wide.
“….”
Silence.
The page was filled with strange, unfamiliar letters.
Bunny froze.
“Lady Bunny?”
“….”
She didn’t understand human writing.
“I… don’t know…”
She whispered tearfully.
The only language she had ever truly learned was the Demon language taught by Luriel since childhood.
