chapter 35
“Please carefully check if there are any side effects besides the function that destabilizes magical power.”
Florencia emphasized the request once again.
“Yes, I will. Leave it to me. And… do you not need more of the magic stabilizer you took last time?”
“That… is fine for now. If I need more later, I’ll place another request.”
“Very well, then.”
Having finished her business, Florencia pulled her hood down deeper over her face and stood up.
After she hurriedly left the room, Omar, now alone, muttered to himself:
“You were saying you needed a magic stabilizer just a week ago… and now you’ve brought the opposite potion… what exactly are you planning, Saintess?”
Immediately after, there was another knock.
It was a knock announcing the arrival of a new visitor.
“Seems like there are a lot of guests tonight.”
That was a good thing.
Omar quickly put on a welcoming smile.
The person who entered was Hayley.
Although Omar’s eyes were still covered with black cloth, he immediately recognized her magical power and aura.
“Oh, welcome, Hayley! It’s good to see you again.”
“Omar.”
As soon as Hayley stepped in, Omar greeted her warmly.
But unlike Omar’s cheerful tone, Hayley’s voice was somewhat subdued.
Accompanying Elion was tolerable, but facing Omar alone without her master was not particularly pleasant.
However, this was also part of her duty, so she had no grounds to complain.
Omar asked Hayley, who had seated herself opposite him:
“How have you two been?”
“I came to talk about that. Her Highness suddenly wasn’t feeling well the day before yesterday. She had received sufficient magical energy the previous day, though. Why do you think that happened?”
“But why didn’t Her Highness come along? A proper examination would allow for a more accurate diagnosis.”
“She did recover after receiving magical energy from His Highness, but her parents were very concerned. A restricted order was issued.”
“Ah, I see. So that’s what happened.”
Omar nodded in understanding.
After taking a moment to collect his thoughts, Omar cautiously spoke again.
“Hmmm… a proper examination would be needed for certainty, but here’s what I think. Her Highness’s body is currently very unstable. Even though she receives magical energy daily, it doesn’t change the fact that her condition is unstable.”
“I see…”
Hayley focused on Omar’s eyes behind the black cloth as she listened intently.
“Because of this, there may be times when she seems fine one moment and suddenly becomes unwell. In fact, such reactions are natural given her condition. So, until she is fully healthy, she must always be handled with care.”
“Understood. I’ll make sure this information is conveyed to them completely.”
Having finished her business, Hayley was about to stand when Omar asked:
“And the Grand Duke? Is he well?”
“Yes. So far, he’s been fine.”
“Is there any medicine he’s taking separately?”
Why is he suddenly asking about medicine?
Hayley found Omar’s question slightly odd but answered politely:
“No. Since the last time he visited here, he hasn’t taken anything separately. Meeting Her Highness even cured his headache and mild fever.”
“That’s a relief. I hope this condition continues. Don’t be reckless and take something like a magic stabilizer improperly.”
“A magic stabilizer?”
“I’m just saying. Even if a medicine is excellent at balancing magical power, you must check twice or thrice before taking it.”
Hayley found it strange that Omar was suddenly talking about a magic stabilizer she hadn’t asked about.
Omar usually didn’t explain things unnecessarily beyond what was asked.
He had always been like that—back in the academy ten years ago.
To have a conversation with him, one had to ask proper questions.
“Has he changed after more than ten years of dealing with patients?”
Curious about Omar’s changed demeanor, Hayley tilted her head.
Perhaps sensing her thoughts, Omar added:
“Nowadays, I often see medicines like that. Medicines that are supposed to maintain magical stability can sometimes destabilize magical energy or cause other side effects. Anyway, being cautious never hurts.”
“Got it. I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you, Omar.”
“You’re welcome.”
Hayley stood up, thinking that Omar had changed due to the considerable experience he had gained dealing with a variety of people.
After she left, Omar slapped his palm against his mouth repeatedly.
“Ugh… why am I so talkative today? Control yourself! Do not answer unasked questions! Do not reveal other guests’ requests carelessly!”
He had almost said too much.
He had nearly warned someone to be careful about the Saintess.
Even though he wasn’t a formal physician and worked in the shadows, there were ethics he had to uphold.
He could never reveal personal information or requests of other guests.
Was he too soft-hearted because it was his old friend Hayley’s master?
Or did he favor her because she was the only one who could save a special, rare possessed guest?
Or was he worried about the Saintess, who appeared holy but might be scheming behind the scenes?
“Anyway, prying is dangerous. Absolutely forbidden!”
Omar steeled his resolve once again.
Every year, the party at the Burnett Duke’s residence during the social season was always a spectacular event.
Some years featured circus performances, others fashion shows or magic performances.
What special attraction would this year’s party bring?
Whenever the party approached, such talk circulated wherever people gathered.
However, this year was different.
No one paid much attention to the special events prepared by Lady Burnett.
The reason was that all eyes were on Grand Duke Klitzman and his partner, attending a social party in the capital for the first time.
“There they come!”
“Can you tell who the partner is?”
“Let me see… Ah, it’s the second daughter of the Payson family!”
“Oh my, it really is!”
The gazes of everyone in the hall turned to Rubiana and Elion, and the once-noisy room fell silent.
The two walked side by side, arms linked, dazzlingly beautiful.
The silence was brief, and whispers soon began.
“Indeed, the Grand Duke’s partner is Lady Payson.”
“Does that mean the article boldly printed in the gossip magazine was true?”
“Seems so.”
“My goodness, how scandalous!”
The story of the Grand Duke carrying Lady Payson to the hotel in broad daylight was what first came to people’s minds from the gossip magazines.
Rubiana’s cheeks burned red as the whispers reached her ears.
“That was because I was unwell! Really, people only see what they want to see. Good grief!”
She had much she wanted to say but had to swallow it.
Rubiana forced a slight smile, lifting the corners of her mouth, to maintain composure.
She mustn’t show she was disturbed. Absolutely not.
However, contrary to her worries, the hotel scandal gossip did not last long.
It was already old news from a few days ago.
People’s eyes now sparkled at the far more extraordinary sight before them.
“Look at Lady Payson holding the Grand Duke’s arm so firmly! They actually look quite good together.”
“Their body proportions are ideal, aren’t they? I wish I could date a tall, broad-shouldered, muscular man like that.”
Admiring gazes scrutinized Rubiana and Elion sharply.
They examined their appearances and monitored their actions.
“Oh my! Did you see the Grand Duke taking care of Lady Payson’s dessert? Could he be this kind and gentle?”
“I thought he was only skilled at wielding a sword on the battlefield.”
“Oh my, oh my, did you see Lady Payson laugh at the Grand Duke’s joke? I wonder what he said?”
“To think the Grand Duke could even joke! Today we see so many new sides of him.”
